It was a bumpy climb through the rainforest, but that only made our trip even more of an adventure. St. Croix’s rainforest is home to so much wildlife, vegetation, and a unique restaurant. Driving through the middle of the rainforest, we found the Mt. Pellier Domino Club- home of the beer-drinking pigs.
People come from around the island and world to feed these humongous pigs an entire beer, can and all. Since they are part boar, they have no problem opening the can with their powerful jaws. Don’t worry, visitors, the pigs are kept behind a gate, so the only thing you are risking in this situation is being sprayed with nonalcoholic ginger beer as these pigs crush the cans.
The Domino Club was really cheap compared to other excursions on the island. We paid a $2 admission fee plus $4 for each ginger beer. We only bought a couple of beers and still had a great time. Just a quick warning: There is no cell service, so bring cash! We didn’t bring enough cash, so they gave us an IOU Venmo paper to pay once we left the rainforest. We still recommend bringing cash and avoiding the IOU method if possible.

We were so glad we waited to eat at their restaurant. You know how we include that we love Bushwackers in almost every article we write? We had a phenomenal Bushwacker at the Mt. Pellier Domino Club. It was so refreshing to have an ice-cold drink in the rainforest. Everyone at the bar kept talking about their famous mamajuana. Mamajuana is a drink made of spices, alcohol, and herbs. It is known to have medicinal properties. We need to go back and try it because everyone said the Domino Club has the best on the island.

The Mt. Pellier Domino Club menu changes depending on what they have, so we got to experience Burger Day (Don’t worry, they had vegetarian options as well!). Just imagine the most juicy, tasty burger you’ve had. Now add toppings like sautéed onions, mushrooms, and their tangy sauce. The burger was a monster. We were so happy with our meal we licked our plates clean. As soon as we finished eating, it was time for another tour of the beer-drinking pigs. Perfect timing.
The staff gave us a quick chat about the history and safety of the beer-drinking pigs, then led us through the pen to the five pigs: Gem, Kevin Bacon, Chester, Willis, and Hamilton Hammy. At the sound of people, the giant pigs leaped onto the gate to greet us. Zane walked right up to Hamilton Hammy and popped the ginger beer right into Hammy’s mouth, can and all. The eager pig easily crushed it, making the can explode in its mouth. Each time a pig would drink a can, foam and soda would spew into the crowd onto people in the splash zone. Zane and I were cracking up watching people caught off guard by the ginger beer flying everywhere.

Our group had a great time watching everyone laugh and try to feed the pigs without being splashed. The Mt. Pellier Domino Club is a must-see in St. Croix. It’s a great time for the whole family; you can get a delicious meal for a fair price, and feed humongous pigs- something you can’t do in everyday life.
