As a person with a chronic sweet tooth, I knew that I couldn’t go without some ice cream during my time at St. Croix. I will forever be grateful to my taxi driver, Iron, for recommending Armstrong’s Homemade Deli and Ice Cream. I haven’t had ice cream this good in a long time.
Armstrong’s has been serving the community food and homemade ice cream for over 112 years. That alone impressed Zane and me. Each time I talked with someone about where to get good ice cream, they all suggested the same place: Armstrong’s. With so many positive reviews and flavor recommendations to try, we knew we had to go. It may have taken us a few weeks to actually get there, but I’m so glad we eventually made the journey.
We walked into the store and were overwhelmed by the number of flavor options we had never tried before! Here’s a list of the flavors so your mouth can water as mine did:
- Almond, Banana, Butter Pecan, Cherry Vanilla, Chocolate, Coconut, Rum Raisin, Cookies n Crème, Fruit Mix, Ginger Nut, Peanut, Pineapple, Strawberry, Vanilla, Watermelon.
- Seasonal Flavors: Gooseberry, Guava, Mango, Passion Fruit, Soursop, Pumpkin (only in October)

With so many options, I had such a difficult time choosing just one flavor to try. Make sure you go back to Armstrong’s multiple times so you don’t run into the same problem as us. Eventually, I chose some almond ice cream; Zane chose cookies and crème, and Mr. Ford, our taxi driver, chose rum raisin, his personal favorite. There is something for everyone at Armstrong’s!

The first bite of the ice cream was magical, especially after our day in the heat. We could tell the difference in quality that Armstrong’s homemade ice cream has over store-bought brands. And don’t get me started on the generous sizes. Other ice cream places I’ve visited try and skimp out on how much ice cream you get in your cup, but not Armstrong’s! My cup was full to the brim- more than enough to satisfy my craving.

Armstrong’s Homemade Deli and Ice Cream is the perfect destination for a sunny island day. While visiting St. Croix, make sure to support local businesses, like Armstrong’s. The St. Croix community will benefit from your support, and you will benefit from a delicious treat!
Love Armstrong’s! It as Crucian as Cruzan Rum! A don’t miss to visitors and a mainstay to locals!!
