The St. Croix Welcome Center proudly hosted an exciting art contest for talented Virgin Island artists, inviting them to recreate the unforgettable final scene from the American classic film The Shawshank Redemption. What made this assignment especially meaningful? Many people don’t realize that the iconic last scene of the film, set on a beach in “Zihuatanejo, Mexico,” was actually filmed on the stunningly beautiful Sandy Point Beach here in St. Croix!

By learning how to identify and report sightings, you can contribute to CORE (Caribbean Oceanic Restoration and Education) Foundation’s conservation efforts.

Governor Albert Bryan Jr. recently took a walk through Frederiksted, known as Freedom City, to explore various derelict and abandoned buildings and discuss potential improvements for the town. He was joined by Shomari Moorehead, President of “Our Town Frederiksted,” and longtime resident Meredith Nielsen. Together, they engaged in a meaningful discussion about the historic buildings that defined Frederiksted’s unique character and heritage, focusing on the pressing issue of derelict and abandoned buildings.
