The St. Croix Welcome Center proudly hosted an exciting art contest for talented Virgin Island artists, inviting them to recreate the unforgettable final scene from the American classic film The Shawshank Redemption. Many people don’t realize that the iconic last scene of the film, set on a beach in “Zihuatanejo, Mexico,” was actually filmed on the stunningly beautiful Sandy Point Beach here in St. Croix!

Recently, I had the opportunity to watch the movie “Oppenheimer” at the Caribbean Cinemas in St. Croix. As someone fascinated by the legacy of the man known as “The Father of the Atomic Bomb,” J. Robert Oppenheimer, I couldn’t help but be curious about his life. During my visits to St. John, I learned that he spent his final days in seclusion at Hawksnest Bay, where his modest home still stands, now fondly known as Oppenheimer Beach. This sparked my interest in whether Oppenheimer ever visited St. Croix.

Sip, Savor, and Celebrate: Leatherback Brewery’s 5th Anniversary was a Fun-Filled Event for All Ages!

Leatherback Brewing Company celebrated its 5th Anniversary on Saturday, May 20th with live music and a DJ, plus face painting and games for kids. Food trucks were on-site serving up delicious bites, and St. Croix Animal Welfare Center brought along some of their furry friends to have fun with the public while encouraging people to adopt a pup or two.

No matter where you find yourself in St. Croix, art adorns every surface of the island. Murals and brightly colored signs light up the streets. Metal sculptures and installations are placed in front of buildings to entice visitors to enter. As I walk down the street in Frederiksted, almost every store or restaurant has custom art, often depicting the details and history of St. Croix. The amount of passion and celebration for the culture seethes through each brushstroke and truly expresses the passion of the Crucians. St. Croix artists truly reinforce the beauty that emblazons this majestic place.
