Want to see St. Croix from incredible heights? Want to feel the breeze rush past you as you take in incredible sights? The Carambola Zipline is perfect for people looking for thrilling ways to explore the island. The ziplines were easily some of the highest and longest we have ever been on.
After our drive through the rainforest, we reached the Carambola Zipline building. Once we saw their safari vans, we were so excited and anxious to see what this adventure-filled trip would bring us.

The staff was quick to start getting us ready. We filled out some quick paperwork and put on our ziplining gear. While we waited for everyone else to do the same, we got to look around the gift shop filled with bright merch and chat with some of the staff. It only felt like two minutes had passed when our entire group was ready and loaded onto the safari bus. Our group was buzzing with excitement when we began our trip up through the Carambola mountains.
I had no clue that the ride to the top of the mountain would be as enjoyable as it was. Normally, I wouldn’t expect the drive to the actual adventure to be a highlight of my journey. However, the bus was comfortable; we bounced up the unpaved roads to island music, and there were several stops along the way that were gorgeous sightseeing locations. At each stop, the driver would explain some of St. Croix’s history and let us take pictures of the bird’s-eye view of the island. We loved that the Carambola Zipline came with a tour of the island. We didn’t even realize we made it to our destination because our heads were out the window the entire trip up the mountain.

After a quick safety demo and a double-check on all our gear, we were ready to start zipping. The Carambola Zipline was unlike any zip line Melanie and I had ever been on before. For starters, we wore special harnesses that are practically a chair rather than just a harness. There was no way to get a wedgie in one of those, which we greatly appreciated. Also, we had no brake to stop it ourselves. Instead, large springs at the end of the zipline stopped our momentum. It was nice knowing that I was not in charge of slowing myself down. All we had to do was go into a froggy pose, which involved throwing our legs into the sky above our heads. It looked really goofy, which made it so fun with Melanie and our group. I would chuckle every time Melanie prepared to stop by getting into the pose.
The first zipline we went on was a nice, easy one that helped us prepare for the more intense zip lines coming next. I had a great time just relaxing and enjoying the view of the mountain ranges of St. Croix. After everyone made it across, the crew zipped across the line doing cool tricks that made everyone do double takes. I mean, how does someone zipline upside-down?!

You could immediately see the difference in the size of the second zipline compared to the first. The second line stretched across a whole mountain and had a vertical drop of 200 feet. Melanie and I were ready for the action-packed zipline and were pumped when the crew let us go first. We leaped up onto the platform and grabbed our GoPro.
“Amazing” would be an understatement for how we felt going down this zipline. Not only were we cruising at 30+ mph speeds, but we also experienced the most enchanting views of the entire island. It felt like we were gliding across the sky.

The final zipline was a mix of the previous two, meaning it was fast but not as steep of a drop. As we came to a stop, we were so grateful that we experienced the island from a whole new perspective. With the entire group back on the ground, the crew took us back to the building in fun carts, told us jokes, and chatted with us.
The Carambola Zipline was a thrilling excursion on St. Croix. If you’re not afraid of heights and are looking for an exciting time, this is the place to go.
