If you missed Tart Wars this past Saturday, you missed one of the most vibrant and flavorful community events of the summer. Held on July 19th along the Frederiksted waterfront, the second annual Tart Wars brought thousands together to celebrate local culture, community pride, and—of course—the island’s beloved tarts.
The Fred Hotel in Frederiksted, St. Croix, has teamed up with Virgin Islands reggae superstar Pressure Busspipe to offer an unforgettable getaway for two lucky fans. This exclusive giveaway combines The Fred’s luxurious beachfront charm with the unique opportunity to meet a reggae icon, creating the ultimate blend of relaxation, culture, and music in the stunning Caribbean.
Governor Albert Bryan Jr. recently took a walk through Frederiksted, known as Freedom City, to explore various derelict and abandoned buildings and discuss potential improvements for the town. He was joined by Shomari Moorehead, President of “Our Town Frederiksted,” and longtime resident Meredith Nielsen. Together, they engaged in a meaningful discussion about the historic buildings that defined Frederiksted’s unique character and heritage, focusing on the pressing issue of derelict and abandoned buildings. “What’s your favorite spot to camp?” The island of St. Croix boasts pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters, drawing vacationers year-round. But come Easter, an enchanting tradition unfolds, beckoning thousands of Crucian families away from home comforts to embrace three days of coastal camaraderie.
The 52nd Agriculture Fair (AgriFest) on St. Croix took place at the Agriculture grounds from February 16 to 19, 2024. It was a delightful occasion as vendors showcased their goods for buyers. People attended the fair to enjoy music, entertainment, competitions, food, and drinks. The event featured interesting community booths showcasing school arts and crafts exhibits, businesses presenting their offerings and information, and government and federal departments displaying their future goals or current community initiatives. They also distributed information and souvenirs and facilitated sign-ups for programs and jobs. The event spanned three days, providing an opportunity for shopping and community engagement from 9 am to 6 pm each day. Entrance fees were $6 for adults, $4 for children, and $5 for senior citizens.
Living in Frederiksted this year has been an enriching experience filled with diverse and engaging work projects, including my contributions to the News of St Croix. However, amidst the mixed bag of activities that take up most of my days, managing time for a consistent workout schedule can be challenging. So, in my quest to seize the day, I’ve prioritized a daily 3-mile walk as a refreshing start to each morning, a routine that has evolved into the most cherished part of my day.
