Recently, I have become obsessed with the glorious sport of golfing. When my partner, Melanie, and I found out we were heading to St. Croix for a couple weeks, my instant reaction was to find the closest golf course to where we were staying. My heart leapt for joy when I saw that St. Croix has not one, but THREE main golf courses that visitors can play at. After weeks of bugging Melanie with my excitement (and asking her to be my caddy), I booked a tee time at Carambola Golf Club and got ready for one of the most beautiful rounds of my life.
We were blessed when the sun hid behind the clouds and let us enjoy an overcast day. After having a hot, adventure-filled sequence of days, driving through the course on our golf cart was a welcome activity. The breeze and jaw-dropping views of the mountains surrounding us were a treasure, especially for Melanie. While I had a great time getting a birdie every hole (How do you know I didn’t, you weren’t there), Melanie loved coming along to drive the cart, read her book, and drink the ice cold water provided by the course. Golfing in St. Croix let Melanie and I enjoy our own activities while still being together.

If you are a medium to high handicap player like me, you will absolutely love this course. Not only is this course very forgiving and open, but there are very few hazards that you need to look out for. There are no sand bunkers, so I had a great time aiming for the green. Also, my drives were rolling a good 50 yards further than usual! Regardless of skill level, anyone can play this course and appreciate it.
Traveling golfers, do not worry. I thought all my progress would be lost when I went to the Virgin Islands. However, St. Croix has plenty of opportunities for you to continue your passion and try new courses. Also, you don’t have to stress about hauling your clubs to the islands. The golf course had a variety of clubs to use during your game. It was fun trying out different clubs than my own. It added a whole new element to my game.

Even if you’re traveling with non-golfers, the views, golf cart rides, and forgiving course make for a good time for all. Golfing in St Croix has been a highlight of my time on the island. Hopefully, by the time my trip is complete, I’ll have tried all three courses (and Melanie will still agree to be my caddy). Make sure to pack a collared shirt and you’ll be all set to have a once-in-a-lifetime golf experience!
