My partner, Melanie, and I are new travelers to St. Croix. After a long day of snorkeling and soaking in the beauty of the island, we couldn’t imagine that our adventure-filled day could get any better. That was until our local friend told us about the most relaxing way to end such an exhilarating day: the Lyric Sails sunset cruise. St Croix is known for having one of the most beautiful sunsets in all of the Caribbean. From what we experienced, taking a sunset cruise may be one of the best decisions we made on our trip!
To get to the pier, Melanie and I took a short, dreamy walk through Downtown Frederiksted. The sun was shining high above us, but the cool breeze from the bay made for it to be a terrific stroll. When we reached the pier, our jaws dropped at the sight of the 63-foot-long catamaran waiting for us. Even better, our group was at a fourth of its capacity, with only 10 of us ready to enjoy a night of live music and beautiful skies.

The crew was charming and clever. Maybe it was the help of the bottomless rum punch, but the team even made going through standard safety information enjoyable. The crew was super friendly and brought out all their witty jokes that made us feel even more welcomed. Melanie and I were so intrigued by the fun facts and history the crew told us about the boat. We hadn’t even set sail yet, but the experience was already so much more exciting than we anticipated.

As soon as they dropped the sails, we were overwhelmed by not only the calmness of the sea, but the vibrant colors of the island’s distant shore and horizon. We were amazed at the natural beauty surrounding us. Seeing the island from the catamaran was like seeing the island for the first time again. It was so nice to take a step back and truly admire how extraordinary St. Croix was. From the vast mountains to the small, historic town of Frederiksted, we were truly impressed.

Each night of the sunset cruise offers a different live musician. Depending on the night you choose, you can hear anything from rock to jazz, or even reggae! We didn’t even plan to go on a certain night, but we were pleasantly surprised when the live musician, Danny Draher, was playing soft R&B during our sail. With our specialty drinks in hand (rum punch, of course) and the live music drifting through the wind, this cruise was the most relaxing, romantic atmosphere to end our day.

After about 30 minutes of sailing the coast, the sun began to sink in the sky. People aren’t joking about St. Croix having the best sunsets in the Caribbean. The sky turned a bold hue of orange and the sun shimmered on the water. Just when we thought everything couldn’t get better, watching the sunset put this experience over the top!

The sunset cruise crew was extremely helpful the entire night. They were quick with the refills and made sure their passengers had a great time. Since our group was so small, the team was able to spend a lot of time chatting with us. We loved hearing their recommendations of other things to try on the island.
We came off the sunset cruise with new friends, a slight buzz, and unforgettable memories.
